Nathan Coonts is a first-generation, third-year student at the University of Pennsylvania studying Political Science and History. As an undergraduate involved in the Penn and Slavery Project, Nathan works to reconstruct points-of-view different than his own through archival and primary source research. As a United States Navy veteran, Nathan understands the importance of common humanity. He believes that revealing complicity in slavery and exposing racially biased rhetoric will begin to deconstruct the myths that many of America's traditions and cultures were built upon. He believes that by doing so, we as a culture can begin to live up to the standards that are necessary for a pluralistic society to progress. Upon completion of his B.A., Nathan plans to continue his studies in pursuit of a PhD.
