Nathan Coonts*

Nathan Coonts is a first-generation, graduate of the University of Pennsylvania studying Political Science and History. As an undergraduate involved in the Penn and Slavery Project, Nathan works to reconstruct points-of-view different than his own through archival and primary source research. As a United States Navy veteran, Nathan understands the importance of common humanity. He believes that revealing complicity in slavery and exposing racially-biased rhetoric will begin to deconstruct the myths that many of America's traditions and cultures were built upon. He believes that by doing so, we as a culture can begin to live up to the standards that are necessary for a pluralistic society to progress. Upon completion of his B.A., Nathan plans to continue his studies in pursuit of a PhD.
